Welcome
to the Toronto portrait studio that takes your portrait photography seriously.
Welcome to Harder Photography.
In
Toronto portrait photography can be practiced by just about anyone able
to hold a camera. As in the rest of Canada there are no licenses required
to call yourself a professional photographer. Virtually anybody can open
a portrait studio. Does this make this person a good professional portrait
photographer? Barely. There are many components to good portrait photography.
Among other things outstanding portraiture requires a sound basis of technical
knowledge of camera and lighting equipment, color coordination, composition,
etc. But most importantly professional portrait photography is about studying
people, about capturing the essence of their personality.
Someone can study the basics and technique of portrait photography in
school. To really excel in it a photographer has to keep on learning continuously.
Excellence in portrait photography is much more about maturing as it is
about learning new tricks. Really good portrait photography is a lifelong
journey.
Portrait photography runs in Gerd’s family since several generations.
His father, grandfather and great grandfather have all operated their
own professional portrait studios. He started learning his trade as a
very young boy watching his father taking portraits with an wooden camera.
Over time Gerd Harder has fine tuned his artistic skills and came up with
a body of work which is unmistakably recognizable as his creation. He
is drawing from thirty years of experience when creating your portrait
photographs. In the greater Toronto area Harder Photography has evolved
into a portrait studio which excels in creative portraiture. It is catering
to a clientele that is demanding a different kind of image unlike what
can be found usually. Known for its excellence in studio portrait photography
Gerd has in recent years increasingly photographed his patrons at their
Toronto home, Muskoka cottage, a local beach etc. On location portrait
photography allows him to capture a more representing image of his clients.
In the comfort of their homes they are at ease to open up to the camera.
Plus clients choosing on location portrait photography are not depicted
on a neutral studio background. They are portrayed in the environment
which is part of their lives, created and decorated by themselves.
If
you are living in the greater Toronto area and are looking for an experienced
professional portrait photographer give Harder Photography a call to see
what they can do for you.
